Serena Williams teases return to competitive tennis, says Tom Brady ‘started a really cool trend’

The 24-year-old has no idea how far she’ll go in her comeback, but says the experience is “fantastic”

Serena Williams will make her return to competitive tennis later this month, following her seven-month retirement from the sport last summer.

Williams is set to resume training with former coach Greg Rusedski at the beginning of April, and she will be competing in the $2m World TeamTennis, an annual invitational event at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows.

“There’s always going to be a level of uncertainty at this time,” Williams told reporters on Monday. “I will be doing some running, but it’s not like a long run; it’s more of a jog or a walk.

“I haven’t lost any weight or anything like that, but I’m just trying to be really careful, and I understand that I’m going to be doing some new exercises and stuff like that, but I’m just really taking it day by day.”

Williams says she will be focused on her tennis, rather than the potential consequences of her decision. She added that she hasn’t thought about the future of her career and has not talked about whether she will continue playing the sport.
