Nick Kyrgios’s victory over Daniil Medvedev in the fourth and deciding match of the U.S. Open was the second title in as many days for a 16-year-old Australian.

The top seeds advanced to the round-of-16 on Tuesday with victory over South African teenager Johanna Konta, who beat Maria Sharapova in a five-set match at the same tournament, and Germany’s Alexander Zverev beat Argentine qualifier Marcel Granollers 6-0, 6-2.

Both Kyrgios and Zverev are now ranked No. 1.

“It’s the second straight time I’ve beaten Nick in the tournament. He’s also got a point. I was really happy for him,” Medvedev said.

“I just love playing him because he is a good athlete. It’s a great crowd watching what happens.”

Medvedev is one of 16 Americans to have won the grand slam in each of the past two seasons. He had not even won his main ATP Singles event during that time, losing in the quarterfinals to Juan Martin del Potro at the 2014 U.S. Open.

Kyrgios, 20, of Australia, has won four straight Grand Slam matches after defeating No. 7 seed Juan Monaco in three sets in the quarterfinals last week.

“I love taking on Nick. I know my game and he has a strong game. So I can really move on. I will try to play like I did today and use my experience,” said Kyrgios of his victory.

“I had played (a lot) with Nick at a little tournament before the Australian Open where I was winning, and I have confidence in him. I just tried to be aggressive and try to keep on playing like today.
