Gwen Stefani shares details of her relationship with Blake Shelton: ‘God put us together’
Pop star Gwen Stefani told a British tabloid that she and singer-songwriter Blake Shelton met and were instantly in love when they were teenagers.
The 27-year-old singer and 24-year-old Shelton, a native of California, began filming a documentary about their lives in Nashville and Los Angeles several years ago.
In the interview with the Mirror, Stefani said she was “blindsided” when she learned that Shelton is the father of her son, Mason, with fiance Gavin Rossdale. Stefani said on the radio show that she and Shelton had “become really, really serious” about each other before they were involved in an intimate relationship as kids.
“It was so crazy to think that we were actually in love when we were 12 and 13 and 14 years old.
“God put us together,” Stefani said. “He put me through the ringer and he put Blake through the ringer and we ended up in the perfect place at a perfect time.” She also said the pair were “very much in love” when they started dating as teens.
A source told MailOnline: “They’ve been together for a number of years and they’ve been getting closer. They’ve been spending time together and they’re both very happy for each other. There’s been tension between the couple before but Blake and Gavin have always known there would be time for that.”
The two artists, who have been together on the stage as duos, are set to open a concert together at the Staples Center in Los Angeles in April, according to the LA Times.
It is not clear when Shelton and Stefani had their first kiss on the set of Shelton’s 2005 album, “The Truth about a Girl Like Me.”
The two previously admitted to smooching in the studio.
They’ve since been open about their relationship, with Stefani tweeting in November 2012: “Oh gawwwwwwwwwww! I am so in the freakin’ ER!… We had a great time, and I love you Blake.”
