In a giant sing-along, the sun goes down on Elton John at Dodger Stadium on Wednesday (May 28).
Elton John is so popular that he has been singing “Rocket Man” for nearly an hour each night this week.
And you can’t make it up.
“On most nights that we play at this stadium,” John said last week, “90 percent of the people who come to our concerts are our fans.
“They get up very early, and we’re like the only other people in the stadium, and they walk for 10, 15 minutes, and we sing till after 10 o’clock. It is really beautiful for us.”
When Dodger Stadium opens Aug. 3, the Dodgers will be so popular that John’s performance will have to be cut in half. The crowd will be larger than those at Dodger Stadium’s opening.
When The Dodger does its first sellout against the Angels on Aug. 9, for example, the crowd will be 10,000, John said.
“After the Dodger Stadium concert, the crowd will be 10,000, and then we will be in a couple of other nights,” said John, in his 50th year as an entertainer. “But now that we’re on our way, we start to feel like we’re making music.”
One other point: There is so much noise at Dodger Stadium that, John said, “the fans will just drive past one of the dugouts and say, ‘Where’s the Dodger Stadium?’
“And we’ll say, ‘We’re right here.’ And then they’ll go on their way, and then we’ll say, ‘No, no, no, we’re right here. We’re right here.’ It’s like a big, huge garage sale. And we’re all very excited about that.”
